Colorado has a lot to be optimistic about. We have weathered the recent recession better than most states. Our unemployment rate fell to 6.1 % in December and our last state budget ended with a surplus. One significant bright spot in our economy is the solar industry. Rooftop solar is one of the fastest-growing sectors in Colorado. This is a win for our economy, our people and our environment.
A policy known as net metering is critical to the continued success of rooftop solar and our economy. Net metering is a policy in 43 states that gives rooftop solar customers fair credit for the excess energy they deliver back to the grid for utilities to sell to their neighbors.
Unfortunately, Colorado’s largest utility, Xcel, is on the attack against net metering and rooftop solar. Rolling back net metering now would have a chilling effect on Colorado's solar industry, the jobs it creates, and the consumer energy choice it provides.
